The level of fire protection required will depend on the usage and size of your mezzanine floor.
Storage mezzanines that fall within certain size parameters will not usually require fire protection, however a floor being used for office/retail use will.
Storage mezzanines will require fire protection if they
• Are over 20m in any direction
• If the size of the mezzanine floor is over 50% of the building footprint
• If any staff are working above for prolonged periods
The most cost-effective way of fire protecting a mezzanine floor, generally consists of three elements.
• A fire rated suspended ceiling to the complete underside of the mezzanine floor, this will protect the main structural elements of the mezzanine, such as the steelwork and decking.
• Fire rated column casings to the mezzanine support columns.
• A fire rated fascia to any exposed edge.
Fire protection is an important and necessary part of the design, our surveyors will advise you of what is required to suit your project brief.
“I would like to take this opportunity to say many thanks, to yourself foremost but indeed all of your team and contractors who have done a really good job within the timescale and with little or no effect on our production. Hopefully our paths will cross again, if /when we expand further.”
